Performance Royalties -

Whether it’s a huge stadium, small coffee shop, or live music venue…

Whenever music is performed publicly, you can get paid for it. Performance royalties are paid out to songwriters when their music is played publicly in venues. In order to collect these, you must sign up with one PRO or Performing Rights Organization. If you’re in the states, you will need to choose between ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC.

why does this matter?

If your music is played out live and you play a lot of shows, you can basically be paid twice. The first being from the venue and the second being from your PRO. In addition, performance royalties are one aspect of publishing that is one of the biggest sources of income.
