Picture this. You’ve been tirelessly tagging your music on Disco, sending cold emails out to sync agents and libraries, and working on songs that would fit great in a Target commercial. A few weeks pass and your hard work has paid off. A representative from Crucial Music reaches out and wants to license your song in an Adidas commercial.
The rep sends over a contract and asks for the signed document by the end of the day. You worked on this song with 3 of your friends so you text them with the good news. Two of them reply and are ecstatic! They quickly sign the agreement. It’s almost midnight and your friend has still not replied to your text messages or email. You start panicking. There has to be a better way.
This is why a One-Stop Agreement is so important
To keep it simple, a one stop agreement is a clause that allows one party to sign off on any non-exclusive agreements without needing approval from the other parties involved. Kind of like one person submitting a group presentation for a grade after everyone’s done their part.
Why does this matter?
Time is money. Especially in the world of sync licensing, opportunities come and go in a few hours. Personally, I’ve gotten briefs with large budgets that required a full song 2 hours after they sent the email.
Be diligent.
